Landslide disrupts traffic

Pithauragarh (Uttarakhand), Feb 6 Traffic disrupted on the Tanakpur-Tawaghat national highway which was blocked today after a landslid near Rangtila, 100 kms from here, causing inconvenience to the commuters, authorities said.

Rocks started falling from a hill and blocked the highway which connects the India-China border, District Magistrate PS Gosain said.

Rocks have already been falling from the hills into the Kali river since Wednesday. But today a heavy amount of debris fell in the middle of the road, said Navneet Pandey, Deputy DM of the neighbouring Dharchula district.

In order to avoid risks of casualty, six families living in the Rangtila area had already been evacuated, he added.
