Ten killed in Uttarakhand accident



At least 10 persons were killed and more than 30 injured when a bus fell into a gorge near Kalsi on Tuesday morning.

The bus was on its way from Vikas Nagar to Tuni when it fell off the road near Koti village. Five of those killed were school students.

According to the officials while four people died instantly, six others succumbed to injuries on their way to hospital. The bus was said to be over loaded with at least 60 persons on board when the accident took place.


The injured were taken to the Vikas Nagar hospital while those seriously injured were rushed to the Doon Hospital here.

Uttarakhand Governor B L Joshi and Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank have expressed grief over the accident.

Nishank has ordered a magisterial probe into the matter. He has announced a relief of Rs 50,000 each to the next of the kin of the deceased, Rs 20,000 each to those seriously injured and Rs 5,000 each to those who have sustained injuries in the accident. He also visited the seriously injured victims in the Doon Hospital and directed the health officials to provide best possible health care to them.
