Dehra Dun, Jan 19 (PTI) Expressing concern over the closure of bank branches in the hills, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank today asked bankers to make concerted effort for development of all parts of the state.

Presiding over a meeting of state level bankers committee, Nishank asked banks to disburse more loans through its branches in rural hilly areas so that the problem of migration of youths can be checked, an official release said.

Describing the disposal of only 213 applications of the Virchandra Singh Garhwali Self-employment scheme till September last year against an annual target of 600 applications as "slow", Nishank asked bankers to expedite the process and deal with the cases with more sensitivity.

Speaking at the meeting, State Bank of India (SBI) Chief General Manager Sunil Pant said the state had the Credit-Deposit Ratio (proportion of loan-assets created by bank from the deposits received) at 47.
