Marriage registration made mandatory in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Feb 4 (PTI) Uttarakhand cabinet today decided to make registration of marriages mandatory in the hill state.

After a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister R P Nishank here this evening, Chief Secretary N S Napalchayal told reporters that all persons who marry would have to register their wedding within 90 days of the ceremony.

Otherwise, a fine of Rs 1,000 would be imposed.

A marriage registration bill would also be placed in the Vidhan Sabha in this regard, Napalchayal said.

In yet another decision, the government has also made it mandatory for all the MLAs to vacate the official accommodation within one month of retirement.

A grace period of 15 days can be considered in special circumstances following which the MLAs would have to vacate the residence immediately
