Cong attacks U'khand govt for Kumbh accident

STAFF WRITER 15:8 HRS IST

Dehradun, Apr 15 (PTI) A day after seven pilgrims were killed in an accident in Mahakumbh mela in Haridwar, Congress today lashed out at the BJP government in Uttarakhand for "not making enough arrangements" during the religious gathering.

"The arrangements at the Kumbh area were not enough to deal with the situation like this. The state government is responsible for the tragedy as it did not pay heed to our repeated requests in this regard," state Congress President Yashpal Arya told reporters.

Had the mela administration been alert, the tragedy would have been averted, Arya said.

Seven pilgrims were killed and 17 others injured in a car accident and consequent stampede during a procession on the day of last royal bath yesterday.

Arya alleged that the state government had failed on all fronts and Congress would launch a massive agitation against its anti-people policies.
