Nainital, May 15 (PTI) Emphasising on development of agriculture sector, Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva today said it can improve the economic scenario of the state.

"Development in agriculture and its allied sector can bring in good returns and improve the economic condition of the people...Uttarakhand has considerable barren area which can be put to use. There are opportunities in organic farming, dairy, fisheries and poultry," she said.

However, we still have miles to go in developing agriculture and its allied sectors on long-terms basis, Alva said yesterday at the concluding function of a two-day workshop on 'Transformation of Agriculture in Uttarakhand' organised by GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology at Raj Bhawan here.

We need to look into aspects like low productivity of crops, small and scattered land holding of farmers, menace of pests and wild animals threatening farming and low adoption of modern technology, she said
