Five killed in accident in Uttarakhand

Dehra Dun: Five persons, including two women, were killed when a car in which they were travelling fell into a river at Gangnani area of Uttarkashi district, police today said.

The incident took place at Nagdevta temple, nearly 200km from Dehra Dun on Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway, late lastnight when the car skidded and fell into 300-meter deep Limkiriver.

On being informed, the police launched a rescue and searchoperation despite incessant rains in the area and fished outfive bodies.

Bodies are being brought to Uttarkashi district hospital for post-mortem, police said.

The identity of the deceased has not been established so far, police said, adding that they could be residents of New Delhi as the car bears the registration number of the national capital.

In another incident, eight persons were injured when the two cars in which they were travelling fell into a khud after colliding head-on at Kaladhungi area of Nainital district today.

Injured have been taken to a nearby hospital in Kaladhungi area, police said.
