15 killed in Uttarakhand road mishap

>DEHRADUN: At least 15 people, including three children, drowned and 10 others injured when a bus in which they were travelling fell into the swollen Alaknanda river in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Friday.

The mishap occurred in Karnprayag area of Chamoli district when the bus driver lost control over the vehicle on a sharp turn and it plunged into Alaknanda, police said.

The bus, carrying about 30 passengers, was on its way from Karnprayag to Gopeshwar.

Eight bodies have already been fished out from the river while a search operation is on to find out four other bodies, suspected to have been washed away in the fast currents of the river, police said.

Three children succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, they said, adding the condition of the other injured is stated to be serious.

Meanwhile, in another mishap in the state, two persons were killed when boulders fell on the moving bus in which they were travelling in Srikot area of Pauri district.
