Four more persons were today washed away in flash floods as heavy rains continued to lash most parts of Uttarakhand taking the number of those killed in rain-related incidents across the state this season to 15.
All the four deaths were reported from Udhamsingh Nagar district where they were washed away in flash floods following heavy rains in 3 separate incidents at Khatima, Kichcha and Gadarpur areas, disaster management and mitigation centre (DMMC) sources said here.
Three members of a family had been washed away in a nallah at Jaiti area of Almora district yesterday. So far, 15 people have been killed in various rains-related incidents this season, they said.
Incessant rains for the past five days also increased the water levels in most of the rivers inundating low-lying areas and forcing evacuation of nearly 2,50,000 people to safer places, official sources said.
Apart from major rivers like the Ganga and Yamuna, most of the small rivers and rain-fed rivulets are rising menancingly inundating low-lying areas.
Baigul, Kailash and Sukhi rivers are also rising dangerously forcing the administration to evacuate nearly 2,50,000 people residing in Khatima, Sitarganj, Kichcha and Gadarpur areas to nearby safer places.
The Met department here said the weather is expected to improve in the next 24 hours.
