Heavy rains lash Uttarakhand

Three persons were feared drowned when a gush of water flooded a causeway near Rajaji Park as heavy rains lashed the district and other parts of Uttarakhand. Incessant rains have lashed Haridwar since late last night. According to the Met department here, it received 200 mm of rainfall in just 10 hours.

13 people travelling in a car and a three-wheeler were washed away, a police official said, adding, while 10 people were later rescued, three others remain untraced.

Other places in Uttarakhand also received heavy to very heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours with Haldwani recording 175 mm of rainfall, Kashipur 135 mm, Pantnagar 129.8 mm, Nainital 88 mm, Kotdwar 80.4 mm, Banbasa 75 mm and Ranikhet 69.6 mm of rainfall.

Water level of major rivers including Ganga and Yamuna along with tributaries were also rising with Met department forcasting more rains especially in south Uttarakhand for on Tuesday.

Met Director Anand Sharma issued a warning saying some of the areas may be hit by landslides due to rains.
