HCC wins INR 660 crore hydel project contract in Uttarakhand

Infrastructure major Hindustan Construction Company said it has bagged INR 660 crore contract from GMR (Badrinath) Hydro Power Generation for setting up a 300 MW hydel project in Uttarakhand.

The project is a run of the river development on the Alaknanda River at Badrinath, in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The company in a statement said that "HCC has been awarded contract of 300 MW (3X100) Alaknanda Hydroelectric Power Project by GMR (Badrinath) Hydro Power Generation.”

The project work is divided into two packages valued at INR 272.84 crore and INR 387.16 crore respectively.

While the first contract involves the main civil work for the dams, including diversion channels, barrages and power intakes, the second part comprises the main civil works package for MAT, a powerhouse complex, surge shaft, pressure shaft and pothead yard civil work packages for the power house complex.

The contracts are to be completed within 54 months from the date of issue of a formal notification of award. The company claimed that it has constructed over 25% of India's hydel power generation capacity, including several projects in the challenging Himalayan region.

It said that "HCC has constructed the head race tunnel and surge shaft for India's largest commissioned power generation project, the Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Electric Project (1,500 Mw), and the underground powerhouse and tunnel for the Chamera Hydro Electric Power Project, Stage I.”

The statement added that in addition, it is currently executing fourteen hydro electric power projects, including four in Jammu & Kashmir, three in Himachal Pradesh, two in Bhutan and one each in Uttarakhand, Sikkim, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Maharashtra.
