The Uttarakhand High Court has fixed October 22 for hearing a Public Interest Litigation challenging the cancellation of allotment of 56 mini hydel projects in the state and urging a CBI inquiry into the entire process.
While admitting a PIL filed by Dilip Bist, a two-member bench comprising Justices Tarun Agrawal and V K Bist yesterday also sought court records related to similar cases filed after the cancellation of allotment of projects by the government.
"The court has accepted the PIL and would hear the case on October 22," said petitioner's counsel A K Tiwari.
The petitioner has challenged the decision of the state government on the ground that it was repeatedly maintaining that the allotment of hydropower projects was done in a transparent manner under the power policy of 2008 and then suddenly cancelled allotments which is wrong and against the interests of the hill state, he said.
Tiwari added that the petitioner has also urged the court to hand over the matter to CBI for investigation.
The issue of allotment of mini power projects to private developers had rocked the hill state earlier this year when the opposition led by Congress disrupted the Assembly proceedings alleging wide-spread corruption in the allotment.
Later, a PIL was filed in the High Court which issued notices to the parties concerned to file a reply.
The state government, however, cancelled the entire process of allotment of hydel projects under the self-identified route on July 15, claiming there were some flaws in the advertisement published for inviting bids from the companies.
The government also said a new advertisement would be published to invite fresh bids.
A day after, the High Court dismissed the PIL describing it as infructuous in the wake of latest developments.
