PDS goes hi-tech in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: Dehradun has become the first district of Uttarakhand where the details of availability of ration in the PDS shops would be sent to the consumers through SMS.

Dehradun District Magistrate Sachin Kurve launched the SMS service which aims at providing information of the foodstuffs available in the PDS shops on time to consumers. This project would be extended to other places based upon its success.

The software by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been developed for bringing transparency in the PDS system.
The data would be updated by the District Supply Office after the PDS shop operators procure the foodgrains from the FCI godowns.

When the PDS shops procure foodstuffs from the FCI godown, the software would disseminate information to the concerned Gram Pradhan, Ward Corporator and three residents by SMS. The SMS would provide information on the available stock of rice, wheat, kerosene, sugar and other items.

Later on this, this facility would also be extended to the applications received by the district administration and the consumers would be able to get update on the status through SMS.

By the end of the month, the information of the vaccinations would also be given through SMS.
