25 Uttarakhand colleges linked to EDUSAT

Dehradun: Uttarakhand has become the 24th state in the country to usher in satellite based education by linking colleges through. The facility has been extended to 25 remote colleges of the state in the first phase.

The receiving equipments and two way communication studios have been set up for this purpose. In the next phase, the programme would cover 53 colleges of the state. The programme is being held under the joint aegis of Uttarakhand Space Application Centre (USAC), Indian Space Research Organisation and the Education Department of the state.

The EDUSAT would also benefit the gram panchayats in the future and the satellite system facilities would also be utilised for disaster management and relief works. The farmers and horticulturists would also be linked with these facilities later on.

The EDUSAT aims to bring qualitative changes in the education system and benefit those students studying in colleges having lack of specialists.

USAC Director MM Kimothi says that the EDUSAT aims to link all the blocks of the state at a later phase. The service would prove to be of immense benefit to the students who are studying in the remote regions of the state and do not have access to specialised education.
