Uttarakhand govt orders probe into SI exam

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand director-general of police(DGP) JS Pandey has ordered a state CID probe into the alleged irregularities in written examination held for the posts of sub-inspectors (SI) at the constable level, in Tehri on January 23 in Uttarakhand Police.

The government sources said DGP Pandey ordered a probe on Tuesday into the circumstances leading to irregularities in the written examination on a directive by Uttarakhand government.

Pandey told TOI that irregularities in this connection revealed that seven aspirants for SI posts allegedly had a tacit consent of some senior police officers. They were made to sit in a separate room and allowed them to copy.

A preliminary investigation into the malpractices during examination was conducted by DIG(PAC) Alok Sharma.

Pandey said preliminary investigation conducted by Sharma who is also chairman of Uttarakhand Selection Board for SIs, a couple of days ago, also revealed that these seven candidates, currently serving as constables in Tehri district, were first marked as absent and later their absent marks were struck down to show them as present in written examination.

Pandey said this was apparently done deliberately by examiners to falsely justify their action that these aspirants were made to sit in a separate room as they reached the examination centre late.

According to Pandey, this seems to have also done to save the skin of those who were conducting the examination.

Pandey further claimed that that these candidates had secured about 250 marks out of total 300 marks while highest mark among 1200 successful candidates among total 4200 candidates, who appeared for examination, was only 1740.

This indicated that these tainted candidates could get this much marks only through copying or other unfair means adopted by them at the behest of examiners.

Pandey said after ordering a CID probe into these corrupt practices and unfair means, he has transferred these seven constables-Ajay Raj, Manoj Beniwal, Yogendra singh, Dinsesh Singh, Deepak Mamgai, Chandra Shekhar Bhatt and Rajeev kumar- out of Garhwal division to Kumaon division with immediate effect.

He said this was done to prevent any kind of an influence on the CID probe.

Official sources said CID probe will also cover the role of Tehri SP Kewal Khurana, who is supposed to be the incharge of police in the district.
