4 killed, 5 injured in two accidents on Badrinath road

Four people were killed and five others injured in two separate accidents overnight on Badrinath road near Virahi in Dashohi block of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand after the vehicles they were travelling in went out of the control, official sources said.

In the first incident, two people were feared killed on the spot and two others injured when a jeep fell into Alaknanda river after rolling off the mountainous road at about 0930 hrs, sources in the Disaster Mitigation & Management Centre (DMCC) said here.

The 108 Emergency Services van had been rushed to the spot, according to Vijay Rana, supervisor in the 108 Emergency Services, who said details of the accident were awaited.

In the second incident, a jeep on its way from Virahi to Nijmula veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Gaadi village, Chamoli Superintendent of Police A R Chauhan said.

Of the five occupants of the jeep, two were killed on the spot while three injured had been admitted in the district hospital at Gopeshwar, the DMCC sources, quoting the SP, said.
