Kedarnath
Kedarnath As badrinath temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu, kedarnath temple is dedicated to lord shiva. It is most remote dhaam amongs the four dhaam. Kedarnath is located in the himalayas, about 3584m above sea level at head of the river mandakini, on both th flank of the temple there are snow capped peaks. It is 14 km trek from Gauri kund.

Lord Shiva manifested in the form of Jyotirlingam or the cosmic light. Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. This ancient and magnificient temple is located in the Rudra Himalaya range.

There are 2 ways to reach Kedarnath: 1) By foot for a steep 14 km trek through a paved path (horses or palanquins are available for rent) from Gaurikund, which is connected by road from Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun and other known hill stations of Garhwal and Kumaon regions in Uttarakhand 2) Through air travel. KEDAR DARSHAN is a decent helicopter service operating from Gupt Kashi in Rudra Prayag district in reasonable fare.

This temple, over a thousand years old is built of massive stone slabs over a large rectangular platform. Ascending through the large gray steps where one can find inscriptions written in pali language. The present temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya. figures of various deities and mythological scenes are depicted in the inner walls of the temples. There is a large statue of Nandi bull outside the te Outside the temple as like a guard.

In winter, the holy statue of Lord Shiva, is carried down from Garhwal (Kedarkhand) to Ukhimath, and is reinstated at Kedarnath, in the first week of May.

Badrinath

Badrinath Badrinath dhaam is considered as one of the most sacred pilgrimage and one of the dhaam amongs four dhaam situated in the lofty Himalayan heights in the Tehri-Garhwal hill tracks (Uttarakhand) at the height of 10,248 feet above sea level.

The route to Badrinath is one of the most arduous and adventurous one due to the lofty hilly terrain, curves and cliffs but on the other hand its amatory scenic beauty gives heaven like feelings to one.Throughout the route to Badrinath there are numerous pilgrimage sites at Deva Prayag, Rudraprayag, Karana Prayag, Nanda Prayag, Vishnuprayag as well as Pandukeswar where the Pandavas are believed to have been born, and the site where Bhima and Hanuman (sons of Vayu) met.

Lord MahaVishnu is believed to have done his penance in this place. As the Lord was doing his penance in the open, Goddess Mahalaxmi is believed to have assumed the form of Badri tree to provide him shelter to protect the lord from the weather conditions, therefore the name Badri Narayan.

Behind the temple of Lord Badrinarayan is the Lakshmi Narasimha mandir, with shrines to Desikacharya and Ramanujachary. At Badrinath one can witness one of the greatest wonders of Nature or we can say the magic of God, that there is a hot water springs of Taptakund on the banks of river Alaknanda this is wondrous because normal temperature in this region for most part of the year remains 9-10 degree celsius, but the temperature of the water in this kund is 55 degree. Pilgrims take a holy bath in this kund prior to visit temple. It is just like taking a dip in holy river Ganga.

Gangotri

Gangotri Gangotri, as name suggest is the origin of holy Ganga. The Ganga is believed to have first descended to earth at Gangotri ('Ganga' + ’Uttari’ which means descended). Gangotri is 99 km from Uttarkashi, situated at height of 3140m. The shrine 250 yrs old and was built by Amar Bahadur Thapa. Near the temple there is a slab called "bhagirathi shila" in the name of Bhagirath who is believed to have brought down the river Ganga from heaven by his penance.

Furhter downstream,10 km from Gangotri, is the picturesque forested halting place of Bhaironghati. There exists a small temple of Bhairon, appointed by Shiva to safeguard this region which gives the place its name. The bridge over the Jhanvi river at Bhaironghati is said to be the highest in Asia. Another 16 km downstream lies the township of Dharali, where again it is told that Bhagirath had undergone penance.

Yamunotri
Yamunotri Yamunotri, or called as source of river Yamuna is situated in the direction opposite to Gangotri and the road bifurcates and goes to Yamunotri from Dharasu, a place between Rishikesh - Uttarkashi. It is 213 kms from rishikesh and its altitude is 3165m above sea level. The famous yamunotri temple is 13 km steep trek from hanumanchatti and from Janaki chatti, It is 8 km away. There is a holy tank here called Gangayan Kund. Its water is used for puja purpose.

The temple of Yamunotri was originally constructed by Maharaj Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. Near the temple are three hot springs. The most important, Surya Kund, is a tank full of boiling water into which rice and potatoes are dipped to be cooked and taken as “prasad”.

The shrine of Yamunotri is one of the "four dhams" of Uttarakhand.
