Uttarakhand moving fast on the path of development: Nishank

Dehradun, Mar 7 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank today said his government has put the development of the state on fast track during the past four years.

In a message on the occasion of completion of four years in office, Nishank said Uttarakhand has become one of the front-runner states of the country due to the policies and planning of the BJP government.

"Uttarakhand has a growth rate of 9.4 per cent, which is far ahead of the national average of 7.2 per cent. The per capita income has increased from Rs 14,000 to Rs 56,000 per annum," he said.

Under ''Atal Khaddyanna Yojna'', BPL families are being provided with wheat at Rs 2 per kg and rice at Rs 3 per kg and APL families are getting wheat at Rs 4 per kg and rice at Rs 6 per kg, Nishank said.

The government has tried to reach out to people at all levels with the establishment of gram sachivalayas in all the 670 headquarter villages of the state.

The chief minister said Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali medical college has been established at the cost of Rs 242 crore. Students are charged nominal fees for MBBS courses there.

Meritorious students coming from poor families would be soon provided free engineering courses, he said.

Various programmes like Devbhoomi Muskan Yojna, Pahal Yojna, Tejaswi have been launched to provide education to children of the economically weaker sections, Nishank said.

Uttarakhand is the first state to give Sanskrit language the status of the second official language, he said.

Stating that the government is working for the welfare of all sections, Nishank said his government has ensured 50 per cent reservation to women at panchayat-level and a provision for 30 per cent reservation in state jobs.

Industrial growth rate has now reached 26 per cent while investments in the state has gone up to Rs 30 thousand crore, he added.
