 This temple is in such a beautiful place from where you can see series of Himalayas Nanda Devi, Pancha Chooli etc.

Destinations in Uttarakhand

Nainital
Nainital: Among the popular hill stations in India, Nainital in Uttarakhand is gifted with natural splendour. Scenic hills, majestic mountains, lake and hills covered with greenery are some of the options for sightseeing in Nainital.

India’s answer to the Lake District, Nainital is set around Lake Naini. Boating and angling in the lake are some of the touristy things to do. Don’t forget to have Pahari cuisine or authentic Tibetan food.
Best time to visit Nainital is between March and May. Nainital hotels remain fully booked during the best season to visit the hill station.

Auli
Auli:  Known as a traveller’s paradise, Auli in Chamoli district is among the lesser known hill stations in Uttarakhand. Snow-capped mountains, forests of deodar and oak, and apple orchards add to the beauty of the hill station. Auli also offers majestic views of Mt. Nanda Devi, Nanga Parbat, Dungagiri, Beethartoli, Nikanth Hathi Parbat and Ghori Parbat.

Trekking in summer is the most popular activity and it provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the Garhwal Himalayas. The Auli to Joshimath trek is the most popular.

Skiing in Auli attracts large number of skiers. Skiing is done November to March.

There are several pilgrimage spots near Auli like Sankaracharya Tapastali at Joshimath, Nandaprayag and Rudraprayag.

The best time to visit Auli is between November to May.

Ranikhet
Ranikhet: Ranikhet in Almora district is yet another popular summer destination in Uttarakhand.  The Uttarakhand hill station is known for its ancient temples, picnic spots, trekking trails and mountain peaks.

It is also very popular with adventure junkies. Trekking, mountain biking, rock climbing, white water rafting and rappelling are popular activities. Camping is also a popular activity among tourists. The best time to visit Ranikhet is between March and May.

Pithoragarh
Pithoragarh: Known as the ‘Little Kashmir’, Pithoragarh in Kumaon region serves as the gateway to the Himalayan ranges and to the Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar pilgrimages.

Pithoragarh is a paradise for adventure sports enthusiasts. Hang gliding, paragliding, trekking, rock climbing, canoeing, river rafting and fishing are some of the activities to do this summer.

Among the Pithoragarh places to see, Pithoragarh Fort, Dhwaj Temple, Kapileshwar Mahadev, Chandak, and Thal Keda are the popular ones. The best time to visit Pithoragarh is between March and June.

Munsiyari
Munsiyari: Munsiyari in Pithoragarh district stands on the banks of River Goriganga on the ancient salt route that originates from Tibet. It serves as the base for high altitude treks in Himalayas and to Ralam and Milam glaciers.

Rafting in the Goriganga River is also a popular activity in Munsiyari. The hill station is also known for its wildlife.

The nearest airport for Dwarahat is Pantnagar. Pantnagar Airport is situated 112kms from Dwarahat. Taxis are available to Dwarahat, Ranikhet, Haldwani, Nainital and Almora from Pant Nagar Airport. Buses are available from Haldwani, Kathgodam, Almora and Nainital to Dwarahat.

Indo-Russia military drills begin

After a gap of three years, India and Russia will conduct a 10-day joint anti-terrorism exercise starting Thursday in the picturesque setting of Uttarakhand's Ranikhet, home of the highly-decorated Kumaon Regiment as well as elements of the Gorkha and Naga Regiments.

Termed Indra 2010, Indian and Russian military personnel will form a joint task force and plan and carry out a series of mock anti-terrorism missions in the mountains.

Chaubattia Garden, Ranikhet, APPLE GARDEN CHAUBATTIA


It is an exclusive apple garden mixed with trees of plum, apricot, peach, pear, chestnut etc spread over an area of 600 acres.

It is said that it is the first apple garden in India, grounded and cultivated by the Britishers. Now it is the famous apple garden for delicious varieties of apples.

Stair type cultivation of apple, facing the great Himalayan Peaks gives the message of peace and harmony of cultivation culture.

Chaubattia is located 10 km south of Ranikhet in Almora District. On a clear morning a 300 km wide view of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks can be seen clearly from Chaubatia. The NandaDevi, Trishul, Nandaghunti and Nilkanth peaks can be viewed clearly. The Government Apple Garden and the Fruit Research Center are the added attractions.

Ranikhet is a hill station and cantonment town in Almora district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is the home for the Kumaon Regiment (KRC) & Naga Regiment and is maintained by the Indian Army.

Ranikhet is at an altitude of 1869 metres above sea level and within sight of the western peaks of the Himalayas. As we said earlier, there is nothing really to do in Ranikhet, except enjoy its glorious setting. But if you insist, here is a list of things to do in Ranikhet.

These Botanical gardens house a fruit research institute. Don't go by this cut and dried explanation and explore this undulating orchard. See apple, plum, cashew and apricot trees laden with flowers. See a variety of exotic flowers, especially orchids. Eat a picnic lunch!

Hairakhan Temple (4 km)
Located in the quaint hamlet of Chiliyanaula, the temple is run by the devotees of Baba Haida Khan who come from all over the world. The temple has clean premises, manicured gardens and a lovely view of the snow peaks. Later stroll through Chiliyanaula that has charming wooden houses and window boxes full of flowers.

Jhula Devi Temple
This is an 8th Century temple, revered by the locals. Conforming to the local traditions, every time someone's prayers are answered, a bell is tied in the temple premises. Today it is a charming sight, weighed down with thousands of bells.

Golf Course
A natural 9-hole golf course, this is one of the highest in the world. Tee away in the gentle mountain sun, and make some great memories. The stunning view of the snow peaks is a delight, as always.

Dunagiri Temple in Kumaun, Uttarakhand


Dunagiri which is a part of the mountain brought by Lord Pabandev. From the highway, one can also climb a flight of 500 steps to get to the Durga temple or Paban Maharaj Ashram on the top of a hill. The Ashram provides both fooding and lodging. Moreover, the Ashram also provides a magnificent view of the different peaks of the Himalayas . Ranikhet, Almora and Kaushani are also visible. Other than Almora, from Someswar also (which falls enroute Chowkari- Gowaldam) there are buses available for Dwarahat and Dunagiri.
