IPS officer booked in dowry case

NAINITAL: Uttarakhand police has registered a criminal case against an IPS officer posted in Faridabad for allegedly harassing his wife, a sub-divisional magistrate, for dowry.

Shashank Anand, 27, who is an additional SP (training), has also been booked for making casteist remarks against his wife Dipti Singh, who is SDM at Gangolihat tehsil in Pithoragarh. Anand has denied the charges.

Pithoragarh SSP Puran Singh Rawat said cases were booked against Anand, his parents and sister and a fourth person, identified as Rami Sardar, at Berinag police station after Dipti lodged an FIR against them. A CB-CID probe has been ordered. Pithoragarh DSP Madan Singh Farswan has been asked to conduct the probe.

''Efforts are on to get in touch with Anand and others named in the FIR,'' Rawat said. Dipti Singh claimed she and Anand met a couple of years ago and eventually got married in a court in Delhi in 2007.

However, they did not inform Anand's parents, who were against their son's decision to go for an intercaste marriage.
