DEHRADUN - As the three-month-long Maha Kumbh began on Jan 14 in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, top environmentalists led by Chipko movement leader Sunderlal Bahuguna gathered at the ‘largest religious congregation’ to launch a campaign to save the river Ganga and the Himalayas.
Environmentalists gathered at Har-Ki-Pauri in Haridwar to launch “Save Himalaya, Save Ganga, Save Life” campaign.
Under the campaign, people would be urged to donate Rs 1000 for planting a single tree, which is suitable to the environment of the region.
Meanwhile, Bahuguna said efforts should be made to cover entire region with green trees which would auger well for the ecology of the world. (PTI)
