Dehra Dun, Mar 3 (PTI) A tusker, which was shot by unidentified poachers in Rajaji Park near here, has died of its injuries, officials today said.
The 40-year-old elephant was found with serious gun wounds on its legs by forest guards when they were patrolling the Dholkhand range of Rajaji Park on Sunday. On being informed, the forest officials rushed to the spot and took the elephant for treatment after tranquilising it.
During treatment, however, the pachyderm died yesterday.
A postmortem report of the elephant has confirmed that it died of septic due to the gun wounds.
Efforts have been launched to nab poachers after registering a case against them.
This is the second such death reported within two days' time in Uttarakhand. A 25-year-old female elephant was found electrocuted at Lansedowne forest range yesterday.
