First batch of Mansarovar pilgrims enters Tibet

Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand), Jun 9 (PTI) The first batch of devotees on an annual pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar yatra entered Tibet this morning, official sources said here.

The 49-member batch comprising 8 women stepped into Tibet through 5334-meter high Lipu-Lekh pass, they said.

From Lipu-Lekh pass, the devotees trekked a distance of two km to reach Pala, from where the Chinese authorities took them to Mansarovar area in buses.

After staying in Tibet for 12 days, the first batch of pilgrims would return to Indian territory through the pass on June 21, the sources said.

The Kailash Mansarovar yatra had begun on June one and a total of 16 batches are scheduled to go on pilgrimage this year.
