One dies, four injured in accident

KANPUR: Rash driving claimed a life and left four others injured in an accident near Akashwani in Benajhabar area under the limits of Swaroop Nagar police on Wednesday morning.

A 26-year-old BSNL employee lost his life, while four others were injured. He has been identified as Sunit Mohan Domri, a resident of Geeta Nagar. The injured persons were taken at a private nursing home. The condition of one of them was stated to be stable while three others were discharged after getting first-aid.

The accident took place when two tempo drivers were allegedly driving the tempos rashly and trying to overtake each other near the Akashwani Bhawan in Benajhabar. Sunit was going to Bada Chauraha when the tempo hit a road divider. He died on the spot, four passengers escaped with injuries. Cops said that the two tempo drivers were trying to overtake each other without seeing the road-divider. The tempos have been impounded. The two drivers were absconding.

Police said Sumit was a resident of Dehradun and posted at the BSNL office on the Mall road. He was carrying a lap-top and a mobile phone. The locals said that the route between Benajhabar and Bada Chauraha has become accident-prone because of rash driving.
