Lansdowne

Lansdowne is one of the quietest hill stations of India and a very popular one during the British times. It is surrounded by thick oak and blue pine forests and one can be charmed. Lansdowne also headquarters the Garhwal Rifles one of the well known combat arm of the Indian Army.

Location of Lansdowne Lansdowne is a small hill station in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand about 87kms from Pauri. It is located at a height of 1700 m (5597 feet) above sea level. It is situated en route Kotdwar-Pauri road in the Pauri Garhwal district.

Tarkeshwar Mahadev: This place is best known for the temple Tarkeshwar Mahadev dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is an ideal place for those who wish to seek solace in the lap of nature. It is surrounded by thick forests of deodar and pine.

Garhwal Rifles: The building of the famous Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army maintains an old world charm. Its command office is stationed here.

Tiffin Top and Snow View Point: These are two vantage points offering excellent views of snow-clad peaks of Chaukhamba and Trishul.

Kanvashram: Kanvashram is located 14kms from Lansdowne has a great legend to say. According to Hindu mythology, Sakuntala and the king of Hastinapur gave birth to a son called Bharat after whom the name of the country 'Bharat Varsha' is given.

Jwalpa Devi: Situated 47 kms from Lansdowne Jwalpa Devi is an important religious place located on the Pauri-Kotdwar Road.
