BRO hails personnel for 'good work' on Chardham Yatra route

Rishikesh: Hailing the "courage and determination" of its employees for repairing damaged roads and constructing new routes for the smooth conduction of Chardham yatra in the wake of 2013 flash floods, Border Roads Organisation today applauded its personnel for their efforts.

"Despite numerous challenges and difficulties, BRO worked relentlessly and ensured that Chardham route is opened well in time with comfortable and safe riding surface of the roads.

"It is due to the determined efforts of our personnel that 2,97,381 devotees have visited the Chardham so far this year," Chief Engineer of BRO's project Shivalik Brig Gurgopal Singh told reporters yesterday.

"Officers, staff and workers of BRO displayed tremendous teamwork, dynamism and initiative while opening up the routes leading to the four Himalayan shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnmath, Gangotri and Yamunotri," he added.

Applauding the efforts made by his personnel, Singh narrated an incident where a team under Maj Roopjyoti Das worked relentlessly to reopen the route closed due to a landslide caused around 10 km ahead of Joshimath at Hathipahad, thus causing interruption of the yatra.

He said that the snow clearance work is in progress beyond Mana and they expect the road to open by June 30.

Highlighting their work, Singh listed number of projects under which black topping of the roads, double lanning of the Badrinath Highway and construction of walls was completed.

He said that proper arrangements had been made to combate the upcoming monsoon season with heavy equipments being stationed at various locations.
